Marvin Louis-Jean

Marvin Louis-Jean currently serves as the Associate Director of Bands at the Dillard Center for the Arts in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He also sponsors the National Honor Society chapter at Dillard High School. A product of the Florida public school system, Mr. Louis-Jean earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Music Teacher Education from Florida A&M University in 2021, graduating cum laude. While at FAMU, he was a member of the world-renowned Marching 100 and served as the Assistant Principal Section Leader of the tuba section.

Mr. Louis-Jean began his teaching career as Assistant Band Director at Fort Lauderdale High School. In 2022, he joined the staff at Dillard High School, where he conducts the Symphonic Winds ensemble and the Beginning Band classes. He also serves as a member of the music theory faculty. Now entering his fifth year as an educator, he has helped lead ensembles to multiple honors, including “Best Band” awards in parades, victories in regional drumline competitions, and superior ratings in concert performance assessments. His bands have performed at the Florida Classic Battle of the Bands in Orlando in 2021 and 2023. Many of his students participate in honor bands and mass band events across the state.

Mr. Louis-Jean’s teaching philosophy is grounded in fundamentals and discipline. He believes that strong foundational skills, paired with consistent effort and personal responsibility, prepare students for success both in and beyond music. He emphasizes the importance of giving full effort in every task and instills in his students the value of doing things the right way, with focus, pride, and purpose.

He holds professional memberships in the Florida Music Education Association (FMEA), Florida Bandmasters Association (FBA), National Association for Music Education (NAfME), and the Black Music Educators Association (BMEA). His primary instrument is tuba, with additional proficiency in trombone and euphonium. Outside of teaching, he enjoys reading, lifting weights, watching anime, and exploring computer science topics.

Mr. Louis-Jean is committed to advancing the legacy of the Dillard High School Band Program and aims to raise its standard of excellence for current and future generations.
