Voshaun Smith

    Born and raised in the Fort Lauderdale community, Voshaun Smith is a proud product of Broward County Public Schools. He attended Parkway Middle School of the Arts and graduated from the historic Dillard High School in 2016, where he was deeply involved in the school’s rich musical tradition. Smith went on to earn his degree in Music Education from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU), where he became a dedicated member of Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity, Inc.

Since returning home to lead the Dillard Center for the Arts Band Program, Smith has upheld and expanded its legacy of musical and academic achievement. Under his direction, the Dillard Center for the Arts Jazz Band has consistently earned straight superior ratings at district and state assessments, performed monthly at community venues such as Smitty’s Sistrunk, and represented the program at the Jazz Education Network Conference in Atlanta, featuring guest conductor Christopher Dorsey and artist Markus Howell. Smith also conducts the Dillard Wind Orchestra, an ensemble recognized as one of Florida’s premier concert bands. During his tenure, the group has maintained its tradition of musical excellence and continued to perform at prestigious events, including the FAMU Wind Band Festival. In addition, Smith directs The Marching Panthers – “The Force”, leading the ensemble to continued success, maintaining their decade-long streak of superior ratings, and preserving their high-profile appearances.

       A passionate advocate for his students, Smith emphasizes the program’s current theme, “Pride in the Brand,” inspiring young musicians to strive for excellence both on and off the stage. His leadership blends musical artistry, community pride, and a vision for the next generation of Dillard musicians to leave their mark, just as he has.
